Carrying the Flame: Bishop Tim Hill on Revival, Purpose, and the Power of the Word

About this episode

Bishop Tim Hill, Tennessee Overseer of the Church of God and former General Overseer of the global Church of God, joins Philip Cameron to unpack the vision behind his new book, Advancing Beyond Limits. Drawing from Acts 3, where Peter and John heal a lame man at the Gate Beautiful, Bishop Hill reveals four transformative words that define a Spirit-empowered life: labels, limitations, lift, and leap. "Silver and gold have I none," Bishop Hill reminds us — but Peter didn't stop there. He explains that the Holy Spirit enables believers to "see beyond natural sight, give beyond human resource, and touch beyond reach." The lame man's story, he argues, is a blueprint for every pastor and believer living beneath their God-given potential. When Peter lifted the man "by the right hand," he addressed not symptoms but foundational brokenness — a word Bishop Hill applies directly to churches struggling with unresolved foundational issues today. Bishop Hill also speaks to the paralyzing power of labels, sharing a memorable illustration about a pillow tag and the liberating truth that every redeemed believer carries a new name in Christ. Whether you're a pastor needing fresh vision or a believer ready to leap into purpose, this conversation is your moment. Quotes worth sharing

Peter and John had looked at him before, but they had never really seen him. But they had just come out of the upper room, they'd just been filled with the Holy Spirit. And now they're seeing him with spiritual eyes. Not only can they see beyond natural sight, but they're able to give beyond human resource.

Tim Hill

I don't know what your family has said about you. I don't know what you've imposed upon yourself, but you have a new name written down in glory by the Lord Jesus Christ through his shed blood. And that's who you're known by. The only name you should carry today is redeemed and regenerated and saved and filled with the power of God.

Tim Hill

When Peter said, silver and gold have I none — behind that, he was saying, I'm not concerned about your cup, I'm concerned about your condition. And I want to tell you today, God is concerned about your condition, whatever the condition of your life. That has God's attention.

What's Discussed

Bishop Tim Hill, Tennessee Overseer and former General Overseer of the Church of God, presents the vision behind his book Advancing Beyond Limits, rooted in Acts 3:1–10. He outlines four key words — labels, limitations, lift, and leap — drawn from the healing of the lame man at the Gate Beautiful. Peter and John, fresh from the upper room and filled with the Holy Spirit, demonstrate three Spirit-enabled capacities: seeing beyond natural sight, giving beyond human resource, and touching beyond reach. Bishop Hill challenges pastors to identify foundational issues in their churches, discard identity-crushing labels, and expect God to lift them into a new season of purpose and praise. His book is available at timhillministries.com.

Intro

Philip:Hey, welcome to Daily Faith Today. My name is Philip Cameron, and I am delighted to have you with us. We've got an important show for you today. If you love your pastor, we have a great man of God as our guest, and he has written a book that I think you need to have in your pastor's hands. It's called Advancing Beyond Limits. And one of the greatest things I've learned in my own ministry over these half century that we've been speaking in churches and being a part of church life, a pastor needs inspiration.
Philip:A thought to a pastor is worth more than a million dollars. A thought can change the direction of a church. A divine input can give direction, and they can last for years after it's received. And today we have Bishop Tim Hill with us. He is the Tennessee overseer of the Church of God. He's just finished a season as the general overseer of the Church of God, which reaches around the world.
Philip:And my mother said to me, emulate people that are ahead of you and that God has blessed and has grown. And if you love your pastor, I want you to contact him just now. He can go on his device just to Daily Faith TV and he can watch this program live. And I think he will gain insight to the next season of his life. And that is worth more to your pastor. It's a gift. And there's a brand new book out that I'm gonna be offering you today that you can get, that I believe you'll absolutely be blessed by.
Philip:Hit the share button, if you will. And if we also are on YouTube, YouTube slash Daily Faith. All of our programs that we've done are there, and they're also at Daily Faith TV. Everything is there. We also have reels that I do every, like a 45-second thought that you can have carrying in your heart all day. And so we're just delighted to have you. Remember, if you're watching us on our different stations on CTM, we're in Tampa on WCLF at 6:30 in the evening on Thursdays, in West Palm Beach at WFGC, I think it is, Monday nights at seven o'clock.
Philip:Hello, Mr. President. I am so — if you're watching me in West Palm Beach, listen to me. I'm delighted and proud as to what you've done. You've taken the world by the scruff of its neck and brought sense back into our world, and I thank you for it. That's in case the president's watching. That's every night at seven o'clock. And also WRXY in Fort Myers, Florida, home of the great First Assembly. I love you guys so much. And also KWHB in Tulsa. We are there twice a week, Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 PM both days. So be watching us. Also, you can see us on TCT and Journey Network and WGGS network, also Integrity Networks, growing great right now. I'm really pleased with that. So whatever you're watching, we're absolutely delighted to have you with us. You are going to love today's guest. Stay tuned. Welcome to Daily Faith.
Philip:Hey, my friends, welcome to Daily Faith. My name is Philip Cameron, and we have got a word from the Lord for you today. We live and exist by the words that proceed from the mouth and the heart of God. And one word, one rhema from him can transform your life. I'm almost finished with a book right now called Moments, and we are the result of the accumulation of the moments of our life. And if ever we can catch the moment, if ever we can recognize a moment when it's presented to us, it can multiply and amplify its impact in our world and those around us.
Philip:I promise you, I know I will — when you see Jesus face to face and your life is rerun, he's gonna say to you, that was a moment. I sent this person into your life and you didn't see it. That was a moment. And I pray today that this program will be a moment in your life, that revelation will come into your spirit, that you will recognize the divine input from God, that you have a purpose beyond what you think you have. You are destined for more than the life you're living.
Philip:And my guest today is a great man of God, a good friend, Bishop Tim Hill. He is the overseer of the Church of God in the state of Tennessee. And he has written a book that I believe is inspirational, I believe is going to be a revelation to many of you that grasp the moment. Please don't miss this moment. It's called Advancing Beyond Limits. And I think you're gonna learn a lot today.
Philip:My son Andrew just came back from Moldova. We have a mission work there. We've been there for 35 years. I adopted Andrew 35 years ago. My dad made me go to Romania. He'd seen the BBC news telling about all these horrible things taking place. And he bugged me for a week, and he was recovering from cancer surgery. And I said, Dad, you're sick. I'm busy. We're not going. And one day he called me up and he said, well, if you won't go, I'll go by myself. And that's how I was dragged to the mission field.
Philip:I know a moment. Listen, I walk into this orphanage. I wanted to leave before I got in. In fact, he physically dragged me. And I just didn't wanna be there. This was stuff I didn't wanna see. I didn't wanna know. And we'd gone down around the bottom of this orphanage and I said, okay, we've seen enough, let's go. He said, no, let's go upstairs. I said, Dad, it's the same up there as it is down here. Please. And he ignored me, and he walked up the stairs and I walked up behind him complaining.
Philip:Dad, this is ridiculous. We've gotta drive all the way back to Scotland. It's gonna take us three days. Enough of this, he's sick. And he went up the stairs and went into salon number five. And I walked in complaining, and as I walked past him, he stopped and I walked past him. And I'm looking in through this glass wall to all these kids, 35 maybe kids, and they're all rocking in metal rusty cribs. And in the middle of all these kids, I saw a face looking back at me with his cheek sucked in.
Philip:And he's looking up. And the Holy Ghost spoke to me and he said, that's your son. As clearly as I'm talking to you, I went into the room, got down the middle of the lanes between the cribs, and picked this wee boy up. And I said, I don't know who you are, but whatever it takes, I'm not gonna forget you. It took me a year to adopt him. And in that year, I rebuilt the whole orphanage. A moment. He's behind the camera. I'm talking to you right now — a dad, a husband of a beautiful Ethiopian wife — because of a moment. If I had not gone up those stairs, I'd have missed one of the greatest moments of my life. Don't miss your moment. Don't miss your moment.
Philip:Anyway, all that to say this — he just brought back a video from a brand new ministry that we're beginning in a new part of Moldova. Watch this.
Andrew:Hey, this is Andrew from the Orphan's Hands. Right now I am standing in our newest project that we're believing God for — Promise House. And Promise House will help kids ages four to 16. And our hope is that we can save all kids that don't have a place to go, a place of safety. And also when they come here, they'll learn about the love of Jesus through family. Our kids from Vara will be able to come on weekends and pour into them and hang out with them and basically become big brothers and big sisters to these younger kids as well.
Andrew:We walked around the property and looked at the area that we're gonna make a camp. And so our kids from Vara will host summer camps and impact kids all throughout this region. We learned recently — Naty just had a meeting with Child Protection Services — and there's over 70 villages tied to this city that need help. They don't have a great assistance program for young children. And so Promise House will become a key part and an impact point to help kids. So we ask you to pray for us. It's a big challenge, something that we've prayed about.
Andrew:God led us to this property. There's two homes that are gonna help over 50 kids. We're asking you to pray for what we're doing here. And hopefully, you know, one day you'll be able to stand here and see the kids and the lives that your giving has impacted. So we thank you very much for what you're doing on a continual basis and supporting this ministry. God bless you.
Philip:Wow. That's an amazing thing to see. The two little girls, young girls that were with Andrew are my granddaughters, and they're there for the whole summertime, part of missions doing these camps that our kids — our orphan kids — run camps, reach hundreds and hundreds of young folk all through the summertime, run completely by kids that we've rescued.
Philip:And my two granddaughters are over there. In fact, this week they're in that new building. And one of them's finished, and my granddaughters are staying in the bathroom of one of the unfinished houses, sleeping on the floor in the most horrible green-tiled bathroom you've ever seen, and having a wonderful time. I was talking to them this morning before I came on the program and they're saying, we're having a great time. We need to open these houses and we need a miracle to do so. We need $150,000 by the 1st of July to make the next installment, to pay for these homes. And we can only open the homes when we have 300 new sponsors of the home giving a dollar a day. You can change someone's life for a dollar a day. You can do something incredible for $1 a day.
Philip:And if you'd like to help us, you can contact us today by writing to us. It's really simple. It's PO Box 25, Clinton, Tennessee 37716. And if you'd like to help us and be a partner with us to allow us to open more homes, we've got a tremendous place called Vara Village, a village of homes right on the largest lake in Moldova. And our kids — we find girls and boys that are at risk of being trafficked.
Philip:That's Vara Village, and the kids live in those homes. And out of those homes, they've changed from being orphans to becoming sons and daughters. Every girl you see is worth $300,000 a year to a trafficker. That's how much they make. And they come to us and we put them back in school, share the gospel, and they are transformed into missionaries. And those orphan kids are where my granddaughters are today, sharing the gospel. Help me please open this new ministry of two homes that will take 50 children between the ages of four and 16. And your giving and your prayers will make that miracle happen. Thank you so much.
Philip:I am so delighted and honored to have with me Bishop Tim Hill. He's been a friend of mine for many, many years. We preached together on TV stations all over the country. And at the moment, he serves as the overseer of the Church of God in Tennessee. However, he has just finished a season of leadership of the entire Church of God — my great Pentecostal, unashamed Pentecostal denomination that is growing and reaching the world for Jesus. And I'm honored to call him my friend. Bishop, thank you so much for being with me. God bless you.
Bishop Tim Hill:Thank you, Phil. What a joy, what a blessing to see you again. And I'm touched when I hear of what you're doing in Moldova, and I want to contribute to that. I'm gonna send a thousand dollars to be a part of what you just showed. I wish I'd known that sooner. Thank you so much, brother. And I say that hoping that a lot of my Church of God friends will join in with me, because I've seen your work firsthand and it's amazing what God has used you to do. So we wanna be a part of that. Well, great to be with you today. Thanks for having me.
Philip:It's fabulous to have you. You've just written a new book and we have about 16 minutes to share with this. And I want you to impact people's lives because we all are living beneath our possibility. We all tend to undershoot the potential God's put in us. And you've written a book called Advancing Beyond Limits. That's it right there. And we'll have it up on still store as well, so folk can get it. Tell us what the impetus is behind this book.

Vision Behind Advancing Beyond Limits

Bishop Tim Hill:Well, first of all, this is our vision for the Church of God in Tennessee. I had the privilege of serving about 400 congregations in Tennessee. And when I moved into this role right at a year ago now, this was the vision God put in my heart — to go beyond limits through the power of the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah. And this vision has been built around the old story of Acts chapter three, where Peter and John go to the temple at the hour of prayer.

Acts 3: Peter, John, and the Lame Man

Bishop Tim Hill:And there they see a man they had seen before, crippled from his mother's womb, the Bible said. And they took him there every day to lay at the gate Beautiful. And when Peter and John were going to prayer, they looked at him, he looked at them, and Peter said, silver and gold have I none, but such as I have, I give you in the name of Jesus, rise and walk. And the Bible said his feet and ankle bones immediately were healed and received strength, and he leaped up and went with them into the temple. This entire narrative is so powerful, Philip.
Bishop Tim Hill:Because it says to me that with the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to see beyond natural sight. Peter and John had looked at him before, but they had never really seen him. But they had just come out of the upper room, they'd just been filled with the Holy Spirit. And now they're seeing him with spiritual eyes. Not only can they see beyond natural sight, but they're able to give beyond human resource. Now, these are two broke Pentecostal preachers. And when they look at this man, he sees them holding out his little tin cup begging for alms, a charitable contribution. And Peter broke his heart when he said, silver and gold have we none. But he didn't stop there. He said, such as I have, such as we have, we give it to you in the name of Jesus.

Seeing and Giving Beyond Human Capacity

Bishop Tim Hill:They could only do so much in the natural, in the human reservoir of what they had in their pocket. They didn't have anything, but they had just come out of the upper room being filled with the Spirit. Now the one who owns the cattle on a thousand hills is working through their heart. The one of whom the Bible says the earth is his footstool, heaven is his throne — he's flowing out of their heart and they're able to give him something that money can't buy.
Bishop Tim Hill:And I feel like preaching now, by the way. That's better than gold. And here's the third thing. They were able to touch beyond reach. Their reach could only extend so far, but through the power of the Holy Spirit, they were able to touch him beyond human reach. And that's what you're doing, Philip. And that's what we do in the work of God. We see beyond sight, we give beyond resource, and we touch beyond reach, all through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Philip:When they spoke about silver and gold have we none, that was in front of the miracle. The only way they could have helped that man is to start a social program. They would've had to care for him every meal, every moment of the rest of his life. No one has that amount of money. But if you can see him through the eyes of the Holy Ghost and the eyes of what God has the potential to do and transform from that moment forward, they didn't have to give him the silver and gold. They were giving a greater resource than money. That changes the future.
Bishop Tim Hill:Always. And that's what God does through — and that's what he's doing through you, Phil. There are four words that I talk about in this book. First of all, there's the word labels. The Bible said this man was lame from his mother's womb. He had a name, but we don't know what it is. And the Bible is filled with nameless people that needed a miracle from God. The lame guy. We all at some point carry a label.

Breaking Free from Identity Labels

Bishop Tim Hill:I remember when I was a 6-year-old child, my mother went to a department store one day and bought brand new pillows for the family. And I remember going to sleep, trying to go to sleep on that pillow that night, and something kept scratching my neck. I turned on the light and looked at the pillow and it had a label in it. And in big bold black letters, the label said, by penalty of law, do not remove. Well, I'm a 6-year-old and I said, nobody's gonna tell me not to remove the label that's irritating my neck. So I cut it off and I've yet to go to jail. I don't know who the pillow police are, but I removed that label. And I feel like telling people, remove the label.
Bishop Tim Hill:I don't know what your family has said about you. I don't know what you've imposed upon yourself, but you have a new name written down in glory by the Lord Jesus Christ through his shed blood. And that's who you're known by. The only name you should carry today is redeemed and regenerated and saved and filled with the power of God. Well, that man had a label, but he also had limitations. That's the second word. The Bible said he was laid daily at the gate Beautiful, because that's as far as he could go.

Limitations and the Lame Man's Expectations

Bishop Tim Hill:Levitical law limited him in how close he could get to the glory of God. The Bible says that because he was lame, he was crippled, because he had other infirmities, he could not go into the holy place and worship God. But he got as close as he could. He was limited by the law, but he was also limited by his own expectations. His expectation was limited to the circumference of the little cup that he was holding out to Peter and John to get some money. But when Peter looked at him and said, silver and gold have I none — behind that, he was saying, I'm not concerned about your cup, I'm concerned about your condition. And I want to tell you today, God is concerned about your condition, whatever the condition of your life. That has God's attention.
Bishop Tim Hill:And so when Peter said, silver and gold have I none, the Bible said then he reached for him and lifted him up by the right hand. He lifted him up and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. Now here's the point. His eyes were working fine. He could smell the fragrance of the incense going up in the temple. His nose was working fine. His taste buds were working fine, his ears were working fine, his fingertips he could touch. But his foundation was messed up. His feet and ankle bones couldn't take him to see anything.

Foundational Issues in Church and Life

Bishop Tim Hill:I preach, and every time I get with you, Phil, I wanna preach. His feet and ankle bones couldn't take him to hear anything. So Peter and John focused on the foundational problems of his life. And can I tell someone watching today — maybe a pastor watching right now — where there are foundational issues in your life, where there are foundational issues in your church, up until those things are corrected, everything's going to be affected. And so God wants to lift you. That's the third word. He had a label, he was limited, but then he experienced the lift. And I'm in the ministry of lift today.
Bishop Tim Hill:Phil, you're in the ministry of lift. And you have been all of your life. You're lifting young ladies in Moldova. You're lifting pastors that are watching today. And I feel the power of the Holy Spirit — he wants to take you by the right hand and lift you up into the presence of the Lord. Hallelujah. By the way, the right hand as opposed to the wrong hand. You know, we've been trying too long to lift people with the wrong hand — the wrong hand of diluted doctrine. God wants to lift you with the right hand of the power of the name of Jesus.
Bishop Tim Hill:He wants to lift you by the right hand of the anointing of the Spirit, the right hand of the blood of Jesus. And here's the last word — he leaped. He went from a label, to limits, to being lifted, to leaping. He leaped up and stood and went with them into the temple, leaping and shouting and praising God. That's the word for somebody today. God wants to bring you to a posture of leaping and dancing before the Lord. I remember a song your dad and your family used to sing — oh, the Holy Ghost. And that's what I feel in my spirit today, Phil.

The Lift and Leap into Holy Spirit Purpose

Philip:I can feel faith coming out as I'm watching you. I know there are people just now that have been paralyzed by whatever the label. Our family were the drunks of our town back in Scotland. Every man in my family was an alcoholic for 200 years back. When I was a boy, I used to go down to the harbor and talk to the old fishermen — the old retired fishermen would sit and shoot the breeze and talk about the old days. And I love to talk with them. And they would say to me in Scottish, fa, who are you? And I'd say, I'm Philip Cameron. And they'd say, no, no, fas your feather — who's your dad? I'd say, my dad's Simon. But fas your feather's feather — who's your father's father? Michael. My grandfather was a real drunk. And they'd go, ah, we know who you are.
Philip:We know who you are. You are Simon's Michael's Philip. And they labeled me as the drunk's grandson. And two boys came to our town, had 96 converts, 67 were Camerons, and we were born again. And our town still hasn't forgiven God for saving the drunken Camerons. Your label that you're carrying today is not of God. We come against it and we say, we're gonna rip it off the pillow and throw it in the garbage where it belongs. Because God has invested his name in you. And whatever plans and whatever dreams you have, they're bigger than you can see. Get rid of the labels, break the limits, lift yourself in the name of Jesus by the power and the anointing of the Holy Ghost, and you'll be leaping.
Philip:This book — tell me how we can get ahold of this book, because I know there are folk watching that need to get this book for their pastor as well as themselves.

Ephesians 3:20 and Pastoral Vision

Bishop Tim Hill:Well, the simplest way to get it is timhillministries.com. That's where my materials are. Timhillministries.com. And we'll be glad to send it right out. Timhillministries.com. And the name is called Advancing Beyond Limits.
Philip:I can feel the quickening of the Holy Ghost as Bishop Hill is talking today. We've had a struggle. I've gone through a bad season with my voice, and I haven't been able to travel so much because I don't know if my voice is gonna be there one day or not. And we took on this challenge to buy these houses for these little kids. And the devil has been telling me, you're gonna fail for the first time in your life. It's not gonna happen. And we've just kept on going, walking by faith. And you don't know how much this word has done for me and meant in my spirit. And pastors need to expand their challenge, don't they?
Bishop Tim Hill:Yeah, absolutely. Well, we go back to Ephesians 3:20 — now unto him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask. Marvelous.
Philip:Marvelous. So listen, get this book. Order one for your pastor. If everyone were to get this for your pastor, your church will be blessed. You'll be blessed by it. And — do you mind if I preach that? I wanna preach it like a shot. No, go for it. I promise I'll let the folk know what I stole it from. But that is a tremendous thought. They didn't have the resources themselves, but they had just been in contact with the upper room, with the power and might of the Holy Ghost. Something better than gold.
Philip:Absolutely. If a pastor is watching this now and they want to get in contact with you in forming a relationship with the Church of God — let me tell you something, guys, belong to something. Be a part of something. Be a part of something that's bigger than your own world. How do they get in contact with the Church of God, or you, to start talking?
Bishop Tim Hill:Absolutely. Just contact me at the Tennessee Church of God state office. And that address there is thill@tncog.org — T-Hill at TNCOG dot org, Tennessee Church of God. I'd love to talk to you. I believe that God wants us to unite together for a bigger purpose.
Philip:We are just watching on the world stage the difference one man makes. We've just watched in a few months one difference. Biden didn't know what he was doing. Trump comes on the scene and everything changes. If I told you a month ago that Iran would have no nuclear weapons, you'd be saying, I don't know. But that's the difference when there's a focus and a vision and a purpose put on what we're doing. And if you're watching today, pastor, your church needs a new vision, a fresh focus as to what God can do in the name of Jesus.
Philip:We have a minute left. Can you please pray for us and ask the Lord to give us this expectation to do more than what we're doing for the Kingdom right now?
Bishop Tim Hill:Father, in Jesus' name, right now, thank you Lord, in the name of Jesus, that you will reverse situations, that you will touch pastors and people that are watching Daily Faith right now. And encourage them to believe, encourage them to reach higher, encourage them to do more. Someone's expectation has expired, but I believe in the name of Jesus that you are going to reinvigorate them. You're going to refill them by the power of the Holy Spirit so that they can receive great things. We believe that now in Jesus' name. Amen.
Philip:Amen. Bishop, thank you so much for taking the time to be with me today. I appreciate you so much. The name of the book is Advancing Beyond Limits, and you can get that book at timhillministries.com. I really feel an unction to underline the fact that you need to get this book for your pastor, and it'll be a great blessing in his life. Thank you for watching Daily Faith today. Please be praying with us as we go ahead with this new challenge in Moldova. It's a great opportunity to save and rescue kids. You can change a life for a dollar a day.
Philip:And Bishop Hill's address is on Old Lee Highway in Chattanooga, Tennessee. There you go. And you can get in contact with him right there. And it's time for a new upgrade in your life. I feel it. Thank you, Bishop, for being with me. I hope to see you again real soon. God bless you. Thank you for watching Daily Faith. We'll see you again in the future. Bye-bye.
For over 25 years, the Cameron family has been changing the lives of orphans in Romania and Moldova — from providing running water, flushing toilets, and clean wells, to coal for heat, new windows, as well as food and clothing. They championed the physical needs of the orphans in these broken and desolate countries. Many of Moldova's orphans are saved from the horrors of trafficking through homes founded by the Camerons. And in the process, orphans become daughters and sons. They come to know their heavenly Father and are forever changed by the love of Jesus.
God help the Camerons lift these amazing young men and women out of darkness. Now no longer orphans, they want to return and invade that very same darkness with the light of Jesus Christ. The Orphan's Hands equips these daughters and sons to become missionaries. Your monthly gift of $31 will allow us to rescue and take in more girls and boys, saving them from the hell of human trafficking. Your monthly partnership will allow us to care for those in the Orphan's Hands homes in Moldova and Ukraine.
If you want to join Philip and Chrissy in taking care of these precious young people, please contact us today by calling 833-Daily-Faith. You can also give by going online to www.dailyfaith.tv, or by writing to PO Box 25, Clinton, Tennessee 37716. So many lives depend on what we do. Thank you for loving the lost.

Common questions

What is Bishop Tim Hill's book 'Advancing Beyond Limits' actually about?

Bishop Hill built the book around the Acts 3 story of Peter and John healing the lame man at the gate Beautiful. He uses four key words — labels, limits, lift, and leap — to show how the power of the Holy Spirit enables believers to see beyond natural sight, give beyond human resources, and touch beyond human reach. It's also the vision he cast for the roughly 400 Church of God congregations he oversees in Tennessee.

What does Bishop Hill mean when he talks about 'labels' holding people back?

He says the lame man in Acts 3 had a name nobody remembered — he was just 'the lame guy.' Bishop Hill argues we all carry labels imposed by family, circumstances, or ourselves, but those labels aren't our true identity. Through Christ's shed blood, he says the only name a believer should carry is 'redeemed, regenerated, saved, and filled with the power of God.'

Why does Bishop Hill say Peter and John giving the man something 'better than gold' was more powerful than a social program?

Bishop Hill explains that Peter and John had just come out of the upper room filled with the Holy Spirit, so the one 'who owns the cattle on a thousand hills' was flowing through them. A silver-and-gold solution would have required caring for the man every meal for the rest of his life, but the healing changed his condition permanently — something money simply cannot buy.

What does Bishop Hill say about foundational problems in a church or a person's life?

He points out that the lame man's eyes, ears, nose, and taste all worked fine — his foundation (his feet and ankle bones) was the problem, and that stopped him from getting anywhere. Bishop Hill draws a direct parallel: until foundational issues in a person's life or a church are corrected, everything else will be affected, which is why Peter and John focused there first.
