Steps of Revival: Sustaining It & Sensing the Holy Spirit

About this episode

Evangelist and online ministry leader Jason Mayfield joins Philip Cameron to deliver a timely prophetic word: a massive national revival is two to three years away. Drawing on a personal encounter with the Lord in early 2023, Jason shares how the Asbury Revival — as powerful as it was — is only "a precursor," a candle before a house fire. "That is not the great outpouring," he says plainly. "That is a precursor." Jason unpacks three practical steps every pastor and believer can take right now to prepare for revival: Formation (daily prayer and Bible reading), Consecration (intentional separation from distractions), and Visitation (simply positioning yourself to receive). He warns that while no one can force a sovereign God to choose their church, there is plenty we can do to ensure nothing happens — including trying to sanitize the move of the Spirit into a tidy 65-minute service. He also surveys 2,000 years of church history to show that revivals follow a recognizable pattern, and by that pattern, "we are in the window for an outpouring." Quotes worth sharing

There is absolutely nothing you can do to get the sovereign God to choose your church to be the church that a massive national revival starts in. There's nothing you can do. However, there's a lot of stuff that you can do to ensure that nothing happens in your church. There's a lot that you can do to ensure that revival never breaks out.

Jason Mayfield

You can light a candle in a house, you can light a fireplace in a house, or you can light a house on fire. And I think it was a candle. We're gonna see some fireplaces start to get lit all across the nation right now. And I think we're gonna see that for another few years, and then, for lack of a better term, the big one cometh.

Jason Mayfield

I called her on FaceTime and I said, Nadia, didn't you hear what I said? You've gotta go back in and stay in Vara Village. And she says, well, I was just doing what my dad would've done.

What's Discussed

Evangelist Jason Mayfield of Bradenton, Florida shares a prophetic word received in January 2023: a massive national revival is two to three years away. He argues the Asbury Revival was a significant but preliminary candle, not the full outpouring. Drawing on 2,000 years of church history, Jason identifies a recurring revival pattern that places the present moment squarely in the window for a great move of God. He outlines three preparation steps — Formation (daily prayer and Scripture), Consecration (intentional distraction-free living), and Visitation (posturing to receive) — and offers a free four-hour revival training course at jasonmayfield.com/free.

Intro

Philip:Hello, my friend, and welcome to Daily Faith. I am so glad to be with us. Does America need revival? Boy, that's the biggest understatement of all time. We are living in the most unbelievable days as we are recording this. This country is about to tear itself apart in the court system by taking a president, a former president, and a current candidate for the presidency to court today to try to stop him.
Philip:This has got nothing to do with legalese, nothing to do with the stuff of the court. This is purely about a man who campaigned to get Donald Trump, and he is working at this moment to do that. And I hope that you are as mad as I am about this. I don't care if you're a Trump fan or not. This has got nothing to do — if this was the reverse, I'd be just as mad the other way, because this is tearing at the fabric of the American legal system.
Philip:If we can't trust our legal system, if it has become so politicized by everything that's going on, and all of these arms of government are now stooges for the government — that's the kind of world you have in Moldova, that's the kind of world you have in Eastern Europe. And so we are just, this country needs shaken with a mighty outpouring of the Holy Ghost, and we need to get back to our roots as to what made America great.
Philip:And we have a guest today. Jason Mayfield is gonna be talking to us about what God has shown him about revival. You need to watch this program. You need to call your pastor. If you love your pastor, call him right now and say, watch Daily Faith — Philip has someone on today that I think will bless and challenge you guys. If you're watching dailyfaith.tv, it's where you can go and all of our programs are cataloged there. And you can go back through the programs and there's something there pretty much for everyone.
Philip:My purpose for doing this is because you need in your life someone to agree with you, to have a point of agreement with you in God, a point of contact — Daily Faith. And that's exactly what we're trying to do during this program. And we love you. We love the letters we get, we love the encouragement we get. So whatever you're watching around the world, let us know where you're watching from and it'll be a great blessing for those who watch us all the time.
Philip:You'll know that my passion, other than doing Daily Faith, is missions. I love the fact that we can change the world through the gospel of Jesus. And we've been working for the last 34 years now in a country called Moldova. We got there through Romania. I adopted a wee boy called Andrew in an orphanage in Romania, and had no idea when I picked him up — we found him naked from the waist down, covered in his own waste. I made him a promise that I'll never forget, that I'll come back and help.
Philip:And I did. In the year it took me to adopt him, we rebuilt the orphanage, put in new toilets, put in new beds — the beds were painted with lead paint — fixed the roof, painted the whole place. And in a year I got addicted, addicted to missions. And that's what our family has worked at ever since. This year, already in the last few months actually, we've given away 15,000 coats in Ukraine. We've given away thousands upon thousands of blankets to the families that have lost everything as refugees.
Philip:Most recently we went to Turkey, and I sent my son Andrew there with a team that drove from Moldova through Romania, down through Bulgaria, into Turkey. And my son flew to Istanbul and they met there, and then they drove 10 hours down to where the earthquake is. And what blows my mind is this is one of the largest, if not the largest, natural disaster in the history of mankind. This is a 200-and-odd-mile tear in the surface of the earth.
Philip:One city they visited had 1.6 million people — 90% of the place is destroyed, totally destroyed. And we have been sending tents, and we also have discovered a way to get a food package — 40 pounds of food — for a gift that costs us $30 to buy. And one of our vans came down from our ministry in Moldova and literally ran a taxi service from the warehouse down to where the people were.
Philip:And just the other day we got a call from the pastor begging us, please come back, we need more tents and we need more food. This is a multiple-year event that's taking place. And I don't know why — I have no idea why God put our little family in the middle of Moldova, which is the poorest country in the world, where kids are trafficked. A girl caught by the traffickers is used 30 to 50 times a day. And these kids — I mean, it's the engine of sex trafficking in all of Europe.
Philip:And we have a gorgeous place called Vara Village, a village of six houses that we bought. It was built originally for rich people for that lake you see beside it. And someone had a bright idea to kill the algae in the lake by putting in chlorine. And they killed the lake, and they killed this building project. And we bought it — it's been sitting there for years. And we bought this place and finished all of these gorgeous houses, which are all paid for and all full of young people, with a boys' house and the rest are girls' houses.
Philip:And what's happened is these kids that come to us from orphanages, rescued from the hand of the trafficker, they've found Jesus. And they're absolutely crazy to tell others about him. So our missionaries are once were orphans. They're the ones that have been going up to Ukraine this last year — dozens of trips, thousands of meals given out, caring for people. They're the ones that are going down to Turkey. They are fearless.
Philip:In fact, one of our leaders — I said, you know, aren't you afraid to do this? Going into this war zone with bombs and missiles? And if a Russian soldier catches a beautiful girl, she's gonna get raped and murdered. And she said to me, she says, I died in an orphanage a long time ago. I've got no fears. God will take care of me. And I just can't understand that kind of grace and courage.
Philip:And so we also, along with all these things that we're doing — this last year, the earthquake in Turkey, the war zone in Ukraine, which is the neighbor to Moldova — we get calls constantly from desperate situations. And a lady called Rodika got in contact with us, a widow that was living at the point of extinction. And the kids — every young person you see was once an orphan — the kids of the Orphan's Hands went and brought their heart and hands to her home.
Watch this: the widow who lived in a house with walls and floors made from mud and dung, with broken glass in the door and the frigid air that has no mercy for her young family existing there, along with four kids whose future was being robbed every day by the awful grip of poverty. The war's hands are fighting bigger battles than what Rodika faced individually. We continue to bring aid to the untold thousands of refugee families in Ukraine and those who are stranded in Moldova. Our plate is full, but when her plight was brought to us, we could not ignore her need and say we couldn't help.
We know we must do something to alleviate the suffering of her and her four precious kids. In the past we have repaired homes where families suffer, by what we call a miraculous makeover. We decided to do the same for this broken family. It is a privilege to be part of such a miracle. Hands on, our young men and women from Vara Village worked hard to give Rodika and her family a place they can now call home. They got to let her know that she's loved by God and his people. We repaired her broken walls, filled the broken windows with new glass, and in only a few days transformed her despair to joy — new beds, tables, chairs, rugs, and a new sofa. We were able to bless them because you care, and your giving made it possible. We know God's heart will be moved by your sacrifice. We love your heart for others. Thank you.
Philip:Every day our young people are doing something for the kingdom of God. One of the great challenges we're facing at this moment is the cost of living in Moldova is multiplying — it's doubling and doubling again. It costs over $3,000 a month just for bus tickets. When our kids come to us, they're put on the streets at 16 from the orphanage system and we put them back in school. Some are in university, some are in college. And just to get the bus tickets from Vara Village into the city, to all the different universities and schools they go to, costs us over $3,000 a month.
Philip:And that has just about doubled because of the price of the tickets and the price of their lunch ticket — the lunch meal every day. Everything we're doing there is costing us more because of the war in Ukraine next door, and we really need you to help us. A dollar a day won't change your world all that much, I promise you. A dollar a day will change theirs. I got pictures this morning that we'll be sharing in the future of our home in Ukraine. Our home in Ukraine at the moment is empty because we've taken all the girls to Moldova for safety.
Philip:However, our house parent Marie is up in Odessa right this minute meeting with young girls that are begging, please take me, I've nowhere to go, I need somewhere to go safe. So we are expanding the amount of kids we're taking in at Vara Village, but we don't have the money to do it. And that's where you can come in. If you let the Lord speak to your heart, you can give a gift — a monthly gift. A dollar a day, $30 a month, will allow me to open our arms wider and take young folk in to be transformed by the grace of God, to be put back in school, and at the same time become missionaries to care for those in need around them.
Philip:If you'd like to help us, however you feel led — if you'd like to help with a tent, one of those tents for Turkey, we need to buy dozens more of those. They're $620 for one tent. One of those food packages I told you about is $30. If you'd like to help in the earthquake area, just write Turkey on your gift — that's where it will go. If you help us in our continuing Constant Care ministry for refugees in Ukraine, write Ukraine and that's where it will go. But I need you to pray about helping us on a monthly basis to take these new kids in and more kids in from literally the grip of the trafficker, and in Ukraine, the grip of a Russian soldier. Your giving can help us do miraculous things.
Philip:You can make a check out to the Orphan's Hands and the address is really simple: P.O. Box 25, Clinton, Tennessee 37716. P.O. Box 25. And just make sure that you note where you want that gift to go. And you can also go to Daily Faith, which is the quickest way, and you can give by your card — there's a giving page on there. And you can also dial 1-833-DAILY-FAITH and a real live person will talk to you right this minute. Say, I would like to help Philip help these kids in Moldova, Ukraine, and Turkey. And by doing so, you are making a world of difference in a world so far away.
Philip:I'm delighted to have a new guest today, a new friend that I'm excited to meet and for you to meet also. I love a man that's on the evangelistic field, and I love a man that has a vision beyond just surviving himself. And Jason is one of those people and he is from Bradenton, Florida. And he has got a word I believe for you today to listen to. So Jason, thank you for being on Daily Faith today.
Jason Mayfield:My brother, God bless you, Philip. Thanks so much, man. I'm listening to everything you guys are doing and man, I'm so impressed by it. I mean, what a powerful impact y'all are having. When I think about how little it takes for us to make a huge impact financially, man, I just — woo.
Philip:Well, what's crazy is — that's exciting. What's crazy, and I'm sure you know this — you never plan to impress. You literally are a Jesus fireman and you come across a crisis and you put that fire out. And as you're stomping down the last of those embers, another one is just up the road a bit, and you end up — it's like Saving Private Ryan. You go from one to the next to the next to the next.
Jason Mayfield:Yes. And you know, isn't that just how it happens? I mean, wasn't that great Tommy Barnett line? He said, you know, ministry is just this: find a need and fill it. Find a hurt and heal it. It's that simple.
Philip:Yep. And you can do that in your Sunday school class as easily as you can do that in Moldova.
Jason Mayfield:Absolutely. The hurt that you're gonna have to heal is significantly different, and it's significantly more in a place like Moldova or a place like Ukraine, but anybody can participate in the kingdom at any time by just doing those things. Man, how good is God?
Philip:And the great thing in the world we're living in is, if we can't go — you can say in the old model of missions, I'd be going there and I'd be so busy doing it that I couldn't even talk about it, because I'd be there. God has given us, and I mean this, Jason, the most unbelievable army of young people. I've never seen anything like it in my life. And kids now that I rescued 15, 16, 17 years ago are now adults. Some are married with babies, and all of the house parents of the homes in Vara Village were once orphans.
Jason Mayfield:Wow. So it's like the second generation of your kids. You come into a heritage of faith.
Philip:That's it. And they call my wife Chrissy mom and me dad. So they know what dad and mom want on a daily basis. So whenever there's a need — in fact, one of the most moving moments, just a few years ago when the pandemic had just exploded, we were in Moldova and had to leave. They said, you'd be out by tomorrow night or we're closing the frontiers down. And so I said to them, go to Vara Village, because we didn't know what was to expect. I said, lock this place down and don't leave.
Philip:So I got to Istanbul, switched on my Facebook page, and here was Nadia and Pavel — Nadia is the leader and Pavel's one of the house parents — out giving food in the villages. So I called her on FaceTime and I said, Nadia, didn't you hear what I said? You've gotta go back in and stay in Vara Village. And she says, well, I was just doing what my dad would've done.
Jason Mayfield:There you go. Come on, man.
Philip:And I said, Philip, don't even argue, just let it go.
Jason Mayfield:Thank you. Bless you and keep on.
Philip:Tell us about yourself. Tell us what you're doing and what God's called you to do in this day.
Jason Mayfield:Well, we live down here in Bradenton, Florida, and we're enjoying that. If anybody doesn't know where that is, we're kind of sandwiched between Tampa and Sarasota. It's a beautiful place. God's doing a lot of great work down in Bradenton just on its own down here. But a few years ago we transitioned out of pastoral ministry, and really at a timely season right before the world went crazy. Just a few years ago we started building an online ministry. And so all of the teaching ministry, all of the things that we were doing, were shifting towards the internet.

Jason Mayfield's Ministry Background

Jason Mayfield:And obviously when everything went crazy — I always say it that way because I never know what the overlords on the social medias will like and not like me saying. So I say the thing that happened that we all know happened a few years ago, just to be safe. But when that happened, we were able to resource churches, we were able to help a lot of people at that time. I mean, think about how common it is to talk to someone on a screen now — like when we met, just how comfortable it is. Well, three years ago it's not like people weren't doing it, but it wasn't what it became.
Jason Mayfield:And so to be a resource to those pastors was fantastic. But about a year ago we started asking the question, how do we have a Holy Spirit power encounter with people via the internet? And the big answer that we came up with was, if it is possible, it is not possible with Jason Mayfield and someone else will have to figure that out. I can preach you up to a certain point, but there are certain things that only happen in the room — impartation.
Jason Mayfield:And so earlier this year in January, I had gone into a moment — and I'm sure you've had moments like this, Philip — where I was kind of suspended between heaven and earth. I told a friend of mine, I'm probably a few days away from being unbearable to everybody. I was just in a mode where I was receiving so much from the Lord. And right towards the end of that, I got a strong, overwhelming sense that we are two to three years away from a massive outpouring in this nation.

Building an Online Ministry Platform

Jason Mayfield:Hallelujah. Well, a few weeks later, Asbury hit. And so when Asbury hit, I thought, well, okay, maybe we aren't two to three years away. Maybe I was hedging my bets with the Lord — maybe I was giving the Lord two to three years just because he was ready to do it, but I wanted to give him some time. But the more I thought about it, and as beautiful as the Asbury thing was — and I was thinking this three days into Asbury, not ten minutes ago — that is not the great outpouring. That is a precursor.

Asbury Revival as a Precursor

Philip:Yeah. Yeah. That is a precursor.
Jason Mayfield:The way I explain it is, you know, you can light a candle in a house, you can light a fireplace in a house, or you can light a house on fire. And I think it was a candle. We're gonna see some fireplaces start to get lit all across the nation right now. I'm hearing every day about people having services that are unexplainably hot — hot is what I'm calling it, turning up the temperatures, just hot services. And I think we're gonna see that for another few years, and then, for lack of a better term, the big one cometh. And I am excited.
Philip:But we've got five minutes left in the program. That's the terrible thing — it goes so fast. There's pastors watching you, there's moms and dads watching you right now. You tell us how we can get to this, how we can hasten the revival, how we can stir the revival in us, because that's where the rubber hits the road.
Jason Mayfield:Absolutely. Well, I would say this, pastor, if you're watching today — here's what I would encourage you with.
Jason Mayfield:I like that story you were talking about a minute ago where you said a guy had a bright idea to go put chlorine in the lake to clean out the algae. You know, I get worried sometimes that we wanna put chlorine into the river of God. And when God wants to pour out his Spirit in a church, we say, well, I want it, but I also want it in my 65-minute service to a T. I don't want the worship team to go over 13 minutes. I wanna sanitize everything that goes on. And listen, yeah, it's going to be a little messy. But if you're gonna have revival hitting your church, this is the first thing that I teach in my revival training course, which doesn't tell you how to get revival — it tells you what to do with it.
Jason Mayfield:Because we're in a unique time in history. We've got a hundred years of established Pentecostal theology. The leaders of the last great outpouring in our nation are still alive and can be fathers to people who are about to walk through this. We've never had these things before. This is a very unique time in 2,000 years of history. However, what I teach — the first things you should do: number one, you need to work on the formation in your church. I would encourage you right now to get people in your church praying and reading the Bible every day. I've got resources for that at jasonmayfield.com, but you can find it just about anywhere — if you type it into Google you can find a resource to help with that formation.

Three Steps to Prepare for Revival

Jason Mayfield:The second precursor that you need for revival is you need some consecration in your church. Listen, I love that we are outside of a legalistic paradigm right now in the church. The finished work of Jesus Christ is proclaimed all across the nation every week, and I'm grateful for that. I'm a recipient of a great revelation of the grace of God through Jesus Christ. However, there was a silver lining in a season of legalism — there was a silver lining that we pulled away from a lot of stuff that distracted us from the purposes of God.
Jason Mayfield:I'm not saying you ought to have a CD burning in your parking lot, but there is some merit to seasons of your life where you don't listen to top 40 radio and you lean into godly music and worship music and prayer. Put your phone down. And if you're gonna listen to a podcast, why listen to a podcast host when you can listen to a pastor or a preacher?
Philip:So true.
Jason Mayfield:And so those are things that you can do. And then lastly, prepare for visitation. Prepare to receive. You don't have to do — everybody receives in the kingdom. Just receive it.
Philip:Hallelujah. Formation, consecration, and visitation. Hallelujah. If you're watching just now, and I know a lot of folk feel revival in the air — they can taste it, but they don't know how to bring it down into their world. And Jason has got some tremendous stuff that you need to avail yourself of. Really simple: jasonmayfield.com. Jason Mayfield — that is on the screen — jasonmayfield.com. And get in contact with him today and say, listen, I'm interested in this. And I understand you're doing a special for being on our program today — explain what the Lord challenged you to do.
Jason Mayfield:Yeah, I'll tell you what, I like to take things to a whole nother level. So normally my revival training costs $99. As a special I give it away normally at $37. However, today and today only, I'm gonna give it away for free. If you visit jasonmayfield.com/free, I'm gonna give you the whole revival training — it's about four hours of material. We cover a ton of stuff, including an overview of 2,000 years of church history where we see that revivals are not a hundred-year-old phenomena. They've been happening since the early church and they've been going on in a pattern, which, by the way, I'll tell you — if you look at that pattern, we are in the window for an outpouring. So jasonmayfield.com/free and you can get it for free today.

Consecration and Removing Distractions

Philip:Now, as a Scotsman, I just love things for free and I appreciate that so much. We've got 20 seconds left. Jason, will you come back again? Be with us on Daily Faith — I think we've just begun on this subject of revival. And you can contact him today: jasonmayfield.com/free and you can get four hours of teaching on revival. We love you guys. Pray for us in our ministry, in our outreaches. You're partnered with us in a great cause. Thank you for watching Daily Faith. Bye-bye for today.

Free Revival Training Course Offer

Jason Mayfield:Absolutely.
For over 25 years, the Cameron family has been changing the lives of orphans in Romania and Moldova — from providing running water, flushing toilets, and clean wells, to coal for heat, new windows, as well as food and clothing. They champion the physical needs of the orphans in these broken and desolate countries. Many of Moldova's orphans are saved from the horrors of trafficking through homes founded by the Camerons. And in the process, orphans become daughters and sons. They come to know their heavenly Father and are forever changed by the love of Jesus.
God helped the Camerons lift these amazing young men and women out of darkness — now no longer orphans. They want to return and invade that very same darkness with the light of Jesus Christ. The Orphan's Hands equips these daughters and sons to become missionaries. Your monthly gift of $31 will allow us to rescue and take in more girls and boys, saving them from the hell of human trafficking. Your monthly partnership will allow us to care for those in the Orphan's Hands homes in Moldova and Ukraine. If you want to join Philip and Chrissy in taking care of these precious young people, please contact us today by calling 1-833-DAILY-FAITH. You can also give by going online to www.dailyfaith.tv or by writing to P.O. Box 25, Clinton, Tennessee 37716. So many lives depend on what we do. Thank you for loving the lost.

Common questions

Does Jason Mayfield think Asbury was the big revival everyone's been waiting for?

No — Jason sees Asbury as a precursor, not the main event. He compares it to lighting a candle in a house: beautiful, but not the same as setting the whole house on fire. He believes we're still building toward a much larger national outpouring, with 'fireplaces' beginning to ignite across the country in the meantime.

What does Jason say pastors can do to prepare their church for revival?

Jason outlines three steps: formation (getting people praying and reading the Bible daily), consecration (intentionally pulling away from distractions and leaning into worship and prayer), and preparation for visitation (simply being ready to receive what God pours out). He's careful to note that nothing can force God's hand — but plenty of things can prevent revival from taking root.

Why does Jason say you can't fully replicate a Holy Spirit encounter online?

Jason found that while he could preach and resource people effectively through the internet, certain things — like impartation — only happen when people are physically in the same room. He concluded that if a genuine power encounter via the internet is possible, someone other than him will have to figure it out.

What is Jason's revival training and how can you get it?

It's about four hours of teaching material that covers what to do when revival hits — including an overview of 2,000 years of church history showing that revivals follow a recognizable pattern. Normally priced at $99 (or $37 on special), Jason offered it completely free to Daily Faith viewers at jasonmayfield.com/free.

How does Jason describe the current moment in church history when it comes to revival?

Jason calls it uniquely positioned: there are a hundred years of established Pentecostal theology to draw on, and the leaders of the last great outpouring are still alive to serve as fathers and mentors. He says this combination of living memory and theological foundation has never existed before in 2,000 years of church history, and that the historical pattern of revivals puts us squarely in the window for a major outpouring.
