Fueled by Faith: Pastor Derek Draughon on Living with Purpose and Power
About this episode
Derek Draughon, host of FuelCast TV, joins Philip Cameron to deliver a razor-sharp, Scripture-grounded message on the most overlooked battlefield in the Christian life: the thought life. Drawing from Proverbs 23:7 — "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he" — Derek unpacks why toxic thinking is the root cause of toxic living, and why most believers never address it at the source.
Derek lays out three practical, Word-based steps to break the cycle of destructive thoughts. Starting with 2 Corinthians 10:5, he challenges listeners to "arrest every thought" the moment it enters the mind — just as a police officer detains a suspect before knowing all the facts. "Put it in handcuffs," he says, "and ask: is this from God? Does this align with the plan of God for my life?" From there, he walks through Romans 12:2's call to renew the mind, explaining that transformation begins when we consistently filter what we allow to take root.
Philip adds the timeless wisdom his father passed down: "You can't stop the devil from flying around your head, but you can certainly stop him from building a nest." The episode closes with Derek praying a bold, specific prayer of deliverance over anyone trapped in anxiety, fear, and swirling dark thoughts. For more from Derek, visit fuelcast.tv.

Quotes worth sharing
“The biggest toxic thing we have in our life a lot of times is our thought life and what's going through our mind. For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. What we're thinking about, what's on our mind, what's on our heart, what we're focusing on, really is what we become.”
“My dad used to say to me when I was growing up, he would say, 'You can't stop the devil from flying around your head, but you can certainly stop him from building a nest.'”
“Their thought life cost them 40 years in the wilderness, and you don't have time to spend another 40 years going around in circles in an 11-day march area.”
What's Discussed
Derek Draughon, host of FuelCast TV, teaches that the most toxic force in a believer's life is often their own unguarded thought life. Anchoring his message in Proverbs 23:7, 2 Corinthians 10:5, and Romans 12:2, Derek presents three sequential steps: (1) arrest every thought before it runs unchecked, (2) renew the mind through consistent alignment with the Word, and (3) allow only God-sourced thoughts to pass through. Philip Cameron reinforces the teaching with his father's maxim about preventing the devil from 'building a nest.' The episode concludes with Derek praying specifically for listeners battling anxiety, fear, and intrusive dark thoughts, declaring their calling and rebuking the enemy's interference.

Intro
Philip:Is it only me, but is winter just staying too long this year? We've moved from Alabama up to Tennessee, and I'm telling you now, it's still cold in Tennessee. And I just want to — all the folks that live down in Florida, I'm so jealous of you right now, because I don't know whether I'm getting old or not, but I'm telling you, I like warm weather, and this weather just is not warming up fast enough for me. And so that's my complaint today. I'm registering it with you.
Philip:My name is Philip Cameron, and I am so pleased to see you today. My program here is called "Daily Faith." We want to be partners with you in your daily walk with Jesus. Every day, we want to affirm your faith that what you're thinking and what you're feeling and what you're being led by God is His will. If you knew how much God has invested in you, it would help you tremendously to relax in your calling and your position in life.
Philip:I've got a wee granddaughter — well, I've got nine altogether — but my newest one, Annabelle, she walks around the place here in our ministry headquarters. We've got our warehouse right this minute that's being — it's slammed full of pallets because we're about to send another container to Moldova and Ukraine. And yesterday, I was on my hands and knees crawling between all these pallets, playing hide and seek with her, and she's only 15 months old. And if you knew, and if you'd watch her, how she knows her place in our family. She just walks around. She thinks her cousins — she owns them all — and she just walks into a room, and she just takes over the show. It's amazing because she is aware of where she is in our family.
Philip:And let me tell you, today we're going to be talking about how the devil sows doubt and thoughts in your mind. Your thought life shapes your physical life. And my dear friend — man, you talk about a great man of God — Derek Draughon is with me today. He hosts one of the most innovative programs or podcasts you'll ever see, and I would love you to tune in to watch him. Write this down: FuelCast.TV, FuelCast.TV. And you need to tune into his program because he speaks to guys.
Philip:If you love your husband, if you love your pastor, you need to get him tuned into FuelCast.TV because I think there's relevant stuff in the world we're living in. You're looking for stuff that's relevant. If you're watching us just now on a social platform, you can hit your share button and just share it with your friends. And there's a wee bell — they tell me that if you hit that when we come on the air, it'll alert you that we're on the air. And we're also on YouTube. We haven't spoken much about this, and we ought to. I think we should do more talking about YouTube. We're also on youtube.com/dailyfaith. If you'd go there and subscribe, you'd be doing me a great favor.
Philip:And all the reels that we do — every day or couple of days, I do a 45-second reel, a thought that is pertinent to where you are. And the response we've got from that is quite amazing. The folks say, "We love the 'Daily Faith' program, but that 45-second shot in the arm really gives me food for thought." So we just want to be here to love you and care for you. You are the apple of God's eye. He loves you with a love that will never ever let you go. Never let you go.
Philip:Just like Annabelle, my wee granddaughter — she knows she's got me wrapped around her little finger. She just walks in, climbs up at me like I'm a seat. She just thinks I'm a chair in the room, because she knows her granda's arms are always open, and so is God's. You are so precious to Him today. And if you've been rubbed raw by life and you're hurting over something, I've good news for you. He is the balm of Gilead, and He'll calm your heart and soothe your spirit and change this, because that's where the battle is. You're going to love today's program. Derek Draughon has got some hot stuff from the Kingdom of God to you. I'm delighted you're with me. Welcome to "Daily Faith."
Philip:I would love you to come to Moldova, our mission, where we work in missions, and also in Ukraine. I'd love you to take a trip there. It would change your life. When we take teams over there, pastors will come with their church, and they'll come and they'll say, "We've never seen anything like this before. What you're doing there is unique." Because what we've done is we've raised up a whole generation of orphans. Every home — we've got a place called Vatra Village. We've got the most amazing village of houses you've ever seen in your life.
Philip:They were originally built for rich people, and that great big lake — that's the largest lake in Moldova. And to clear the lake of algae, they put in tons and tons of chlorine and destroyed the lake. And that village you're looking at was being built for rich people, and we bought it. It had never been finished. The houses had never been lived in. And by the provision of God, we built these amazing homes. You should see them. They live in nicer homes than I do. It's amazing what God's allowed us to do in this place.
Philip:And they come to us broken and from horrendous circumstances, from orphanages, poor families, and they are the most at risk to be trafficked. And when they come to us, God does an amazing work. And now, the house parents of those homes in Vatra Village were once orphans themselves, and God has just transformed their lives, and they're married with babies. But they've lived the experience of going through the lack and the rejection of being an orphan. It is amazing. And we turn these kids from orphans into sons and daughters and into missionaries.
Philip:Each of those homes adopts a village every year, a different village every year, and our kids conduct missions into that one village. They find out every orphan, they find out every widow, every broken family, and they feed these families and bring them clothes and have summer camps and just love. And every time someone gets saved, we deliver them to the pastor of the little evangelical church that's in this forgotten place. And the miracle that we are seeing is incredible.
Philip:We just found a new girl. She came, and she's been with us for a few months now. Her name is Alexandra. And one day, our kids were in this village and found this lonely girl and her sister. And listen to her testimony and see what the miracle of grace has been doing. Watch this.
Alexandra:My father has been an alcoholic for as long as I can remember. He always came home drunk. Every night, my sister and I would hear shouting. We would close our eyes, hoping that maybe tomorrow would be different. But it never was.
Alexandra:My name is Alexandra, and I am 17 years old, and today I live at Vatra Village. When I was nine, my mother decided to leave the country in search of a better life. But when she came back, she had nothing. The woman she worked for had lied to her and left her empty-handed. That was the moment my mother broke. For months, she barely moved, just lay in bed crying, lost in a darkness I couldn't understand. The only person who took care of me and my mother was my grandmother. She was our only light in those days.
Alexandra:One of the hardest moments I remember is when she tried to leave us for another man. I held onto her, sobbing, begging for her to stay, but she still walked away. That night, my father came home drunk, as always, and I felt more alone and abandoned than ever before.
Alexandra:Now, my mother is in the hospital, consumed by her depression. She won't answer the phone. It feels like she's slipping away. My older sister and I never talk about our family when we see each other. It's too painful. Some wounds run too deep. But I made a promise to myself. I will not let my past define me. My future will not be like my parents'. I dream of an education, of a loving family, of a home filled with warmth and laughter.
Alexandra:And until that day comes, I am grateful that my home is Vatra Village. Here, I have found something I never thought I would: family. Here, I am not invisible. I am not alone. Thank you for giving me the love and support I never had in my own family.
Philip:Her name is Alexandra, a miracle of grace. To watch them come to us broken, hurt — you imagine living in a home with an alcoholic, and every night it was beatings and fighting, and she came to us, and to watch her blossom just by the grace of God is the most amazing thing. We have got a house full. That young girl, caught by a trafficker, would earn the trafficker $300,000 a year.
Philip:Every girl you see in that video you've just been watching is worth $300,000 a year to the trafficker. Everything you're seeing in that video is provided for and paid for by someone just like you giving a dollar a day. You can change a life for a dollar a day. You can talk to a girl and speak into a girl's life called Alexandra and say, "You don't have to be like your mom. You don't have to live that horrendous existence. There's hope." And you're giving. And what we're looking for is for someone like you to say, "Philip, I'd like to be a part of this. This is something I can get involved in."
Philip:This is somewhere you can come and watch and be there with these kids. It's amazing. It really is. At this moment, as I'm speaking to you, we have just bought two new houses in a place we're calling Promised Land. Two homes that will house 50 kids, little kids between the age of four and 16. That square of land right there is where it is. And those two houses — and on that property, there is also a great big barn, and we're going to turn the barn into a youth camp. We're going to have the best youth camp in the whole of Eastern Europe, right there. We're going to have all kinds of stuff, and we're excited to be able to talk about the possibilities of it.
Philip:Now, the colors inside this house — whoever would paint their house pink and those great big beds — that's all going to be changed and toned down somewhat. But those houses are going to save the lives of 50 kids, little kids, that'll never have to be abused. They'll stay with us, and then when they're 16, they'll be sent to our Vatra Village and go to college and university in the main city. You can be a part with us. We need 300 new sponsors of these homes to make this miracle happen. Why don't you pray about being part with us? Help me help these kids find Jesus, save them from a life of abuse, change the trajectory of their entire life.
Philip:There are businessmen and businesswomen watching right now that you could incorporate this into the giving of your business, and by doing so, it would be amazing. We're looking for people to help us pay for this. We've signed the contracts in faith, and it's going to take — the two houses will cost $150,000 each, $300,000, and it's going to cost us the same again to fix the barn and all the youth camp and stuff. We're looking for 300 people to give a gift of $2,000. And maybe one of the 300 watching me right now to say, "Philip, I can do this."
Philip:If you contact us, our address is really simple. Orphan's Hands, PO Box 25, Clinton, Tennessee 37716. You could also go to dailyfaith.tv, and there's a giving page there. Or also, you can call an 800 number — how easy is this? — 800-833-DAILYFAITH, and a real-life person will pick up the phone and speak with you, and you can share and be a part of a miracle. Listen, I know we're living in terrible times. I know things are bad. But I'll tell you what, unless someone lights candles, we will live in darkness. And I just pray that God will speak to your heart today to be a part of this miracle.
Philip:I'm delighted to have with me my friend. This man has ministered and spoken into my life so many times, and I appreciate him so deeply. He is the host of FuelCast TV. If you want a program — a podcast for a guy — if maybe you're a lady watching and you've got a husband or your pastor, get them in contact with fuelcast.tv because I promise you there's stuff on there that will help you. And I'm delighted to have my friend. Derek, I'm delighted to have you with me, my friend.
Philip:When we were setting up today, I had a whole bunch of insults that I was talking, hoping that you were there listening. I couldn't see you on screen. Man, I was just — and the speaker wasn't switched on, so I felt I've wasted a lot of genius today. I just love having you on "Daily Faith." How are you doing, my brother?
Derek Draughon:I'm doing great. I love being on "Daily Faith." You were just talking about lighting a candle to light up the darkness, and man, I just had the thought — so many people want a floodlight. They want to do the big things, and they're skipping over just lighting a candle. Such a simple thing. You say a dollar a day can change lives. That's lighting a candle. And I'm the same way at times. I want to do the big drastic thing. I want to do the big change. But a dollar a day changes lives. And man, if we'll just light a candle.
Philip:You can't even buy a Coke for a dollar these days, but you can change a life.
Derek Draughon:No, you cannot. This little girl, Alexandra, man. She is being daily transformed like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon, just because there's no more tension in her life, and she's going to school.
Philip:When the kids come to us, we have a welcome party, and we've got great big Rubbermaid — in fact, I saw we're putting a container over the next couple of weeks, and Chrissy was working with these great big containers — and inside that tub, that Rubbermaid tub, there's a whole wardrobe. And you should see their faces light up when they get a watch. Little things. A candle. But it affirms, "I've come home. I'm here." And then we've helped her sister that she referred to. We also helped her. She went through Orphan's Hands as well. So it's just amazing. And you've always been a part with me and encouraged me, and I want to thank God for you.
Derek Draughon:Well, I love it. I was having coffee with some guys this morning. I always tell people, "You've got to build faith circles." And I remember back to a time — a mutual friend of ours and a couple of other people — I would sit and have coffee with them, and I would leave there feeling like I could walk on water. I could change the world. And then other people I'd go and sit with, have lunch or coffee, I would leave there feeling deflated. Beat up, and just like I wasn't going to make it in life. And that's why I tell guys all the time, "You've got to have that faith circle."
Derek Draughon:And I was sitting with a couple of guys this morning that are a faith circle of mine. We were having coffee, and I told them I had to head out because I had to be on your program. And they said, "Man, is Philip Cameron everything he appears to be?" I said, "Listen to me. He is the real deal." One of them's starting a business, and I said, "If your business is going to give, you need to give to Orphan's Hands, because it is the real deal." And I believe that, and I love it.
Philip:Love being a part. I want you to come to Moldova. I think if you came to Moldova, it would absolutely blow your mind. Pastors will come to me and they'll say, "Philip, you've come to our church, and you've talked about this stuff, and you've showed videos. And it's way more than what you say." I always want to understate, not overstate. I know you know a lot of people, and a lot are preachers, that they preach full cream and they live skim milk. But everything we do over there is done with absolute excellence, and God has just been so faithful.
Philip:Every time you come, you bring a word. You're my faith circle this morning. Tell us what God's been talking to you about.
Derek Draughon:Well, really, one thing that's been on my heart — I need to say on my mind, because that's what I'm talking about — but it's just everybody talks about toxic masculinity or toxic media, or this word toxic. And I've just realized that the biggest toxic thing we have in our life a lot of times is our thought life and what's going through our mind. And I was reading Proverbs 23, verse seven. If you read it in the Amplified version, it says it this way: "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he." What we're thinking about, what's on our mind, what's on our heart, what we're focusing on, really is what we become. And I was writing some stuff about it in my journal, which I do, and thoughts produce action. Whatever we're thinking about is the action that comes out of our life.
Toxic Thought Life Introduced
Derek Draughon:So if we constantly dwell on toxic things — my faith circle this morning, we were talking about media, and the news, and X, and Twitter, and Instagram — if we're constantly looking at negative news, those thoughts are going to produce negative things in our life. So I think what's on my heart — I'm old enough to be around kind of in the early days of computers and computer programming — and I remember them always saying, "Garbage in, garbage out." That if you write garbage into the software, you're going to get garbage out of the software. So in our thought life, if we put garbage in, if it's toxic coming in all the time, then it's going to be toxic coming out. Even when we don't mean to, our thought life is going to produce actions in our life. We're going to have toxic things happening.
Proverbs 23:7 — As a Man Thinks
Derek Draughon:So I just began to scratch down three ways to have better thoughts. Three ways to clear our mind and work, and it all comes from the Word. And the first one's out of 2 Corinthians, that we've got to arrest every thought. I don't know about you. I tell my family — we have my boys, and their girls, and people around us come over on Friday night and Saturday night, hang out at the house — I love to watch the live police program that comes on. It's called OP Live now. And I'll tell them all, "Hey guys, it's 8:00. I now have to begin to police the nation." And I turn up my OP Live, and I sit there on my couch like I'm helping these police officers police the nation, and I watch them arrest people.
Garbage In Garbage Out Principle
Derek Draughon:And it's immediate. They will get this guy out of the car, and even they don't know what's in the car, they don't know if he's got warrants, they don't know if he's driving legally, but they immediately put handcuffs on him, and they'll tell him, "Hey, calm down. We're just detaining you right now till we figure this out." Philip, if we would start doing that with every thought that comes through our mind — like the Word tells us to arrest every thought, put it in handcuffs, and say, "Okay, wait a minute. Is this from God? Is this from the Word? Does this align with my purpose, the plan of God for my life? Is this really what God is speaking to me right now?" And test every thought before we allow it to run through our system — what would change in our life if we would begin to do that?
Arresting Every Thought — 2 Corinthians 10:5
Philip:Everything would change. 2 Corinthians 10:5. "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought" — to do what? To make it obedient to Christ. Whoa. So every thought that comes through our mind, if we would just like OP Live does on Friday and Saturday night, if we would just put handcuffs on it immediately and say, "Look, I may let you out in a minute. You may be a God thought. I may let you flow through. But for this moment, I'm going to grab you, and we're just going to hold on a minute and make sure this is God."
Derek Draughon:That's amazing. How many thoughts come from the enemy that we allow to run rampant in our lives? How often does the enemy just make a suggestion and we allow it to just run through our life and ruin us? I know watching right now, this word is delivering someone from dark thoughts.
Philip:Amen. You see, my dad used to say to me when I was growing up, he would say, "You can't stop the devil from flying around your head, but you can certainly stop him from building a nest." And the key in your life is — the Lord knows I have dark thoughts. The devil comes along, and I'm having tremendous battle with my voice, and we've just committed to buy this place and to build it, and it needs me to find the money to make it all happen. And oh my goodness, have you heard the things the devil's been telling me? "You're not going to make it. You're going to fail this time. This is the last thing you're going to do, and you're going to blow it. You're going to fail."
Philip:And I've got to say to him, "Oh, no. Hold on. I don't accept that." That is a lie of the devil. Because what happens is, what Job feared came upon him. So what the devil does, he comes along and casts a thought, and if you buy it, it's yours. And whatever you buy becomes reality in your life. And what you've got to do is you've got to be continually taking the brush of grace and the brush of the blood of Jesus and the brush of the Holy Ghost and say, "No, I'm sweeping that out of my life. I'm not going to do that." And if you can do that today, my friend, listen to me — the things that's haunting you and troubling you, and the devil comes across, and he's the accuser of the brethren, but he is defeated by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Philip:And you have power to say to him, "Get out. Go away. Leave me alone. You're not relevant in my world, in my relationship with Jesus."
Derek Draughon:Man, that's tremendous stuff. I've seen them so many times on that show — they don't arrest, but they detain them. Just hold them. And then they'll come back and say, "Hey," they're taking the handcuffs off, and they're like, "Hey, man, everything's clear. You're good. Go on about your way." And if we would do that with every thought, then we get to step two, where the Word says, "Then renew your thought life." So once we start grabbing every thought, saying, "Wait a minute, that's not of God. That's not a suggestion from the Holy Spirit," or, "Hey, this is God. Let's let this one go. Let's let it pass through." Then we can begin to renew our thought life like Romans tells us to.
Renewing the Mind — Romans 12:2
Derek Draughon:Don't conform to the pattern of this world. Be transformed by renewing your mind. Then you'll be able to test and approve — and that's what we're doing, we're testing and approving — what God's will is, His good, His pleasing, and His perfect will. And it's not that we're not going to allow the thoughts that are good through, but we're going to stop the ones that are bad. As your dad said, we're not going to let that thing build a nest in our mind. We're going to run that thing off.
Derek Draughon:I've never been a cat person, and I hate to even say this live on the internet because I've never been a cat person, but our daughter-in-law brought three cats over a couple of years ago, and they were keeping two of them. But the little gray one wouldn't know how to have anywhere to live, and Courtney looked at me and said, "Derek, I think we need it." And I'm like, "Oh, man, I am not a cat..." Let me tell you something. When I walk in the house now — and we named her Grissy — I walk in the house now, and she's laying over there on the stool. I got to walk over there and give her a little bit of love and say, "Hey, Grissy girl, what are you..." She's so sweet.
Philip:I'm embarrassed for you.
Derek Draughon:I know. You ought to throw me off right now. I wish my battery would shut off like that one time I was on. But when I walk in there and see Grissy — the thing I love about Grissy is she gets in the yard, and we got squirrels in our yard, and she'll shake her tail the same way the squirrel shakes his. And she's wanting to be with the squirrels, and I think she's really trying to grab one of them. But she gets out in that yard. She's renewing her activities in her mind to be more like the squirrel. And she's as gray as a squirrel. She looks like she's fitting in out there. And if we would begin to do that, if we would begin to renew our mind according to the Word and begin to look like the Word and talk like the Word, walk like the Word, then our mind will be renewed, and those birds will have nowhere to nest.
Prayer Over Anxious and Dark Thoughts
Philip:That is the truth. I felt it when you said it.
Derek Draughon:I just want to pray for somebody right now that it's swirling around them, and they're having a tough time keeping those away. And God, I pray right now, Father, whoever that is that's just dealing with that right now, God, and it is causing anxiety, it's causing trauma and fear for them, Lord, because they're just dealing with that mess right now, God. I just rebuke it in the name of Jesus, and I ask you to give them just 48 hours, God, where that stuff just backs off, so they can begin to work the process and arrest every thought and begin to renew their thought life.
Derek Draughon:I just speak to them right now, and I declare to them that you are called of God, that God's hand is on your life, that you are anointed by Him, and that the enemy's trying to shut down what you're doing because of who you are and what He's called you to do. So we rebuke that right now, and I pray for just a couple clear days where they can just begin to arrest every thought. They can keep the good ones and get rid of the bad ones, so that they can begin to do what God's called them to do. In Jesus' name, amen.
Philip:Hallelujah. Amen. Wow. Amen. God's going to give you a break. He's going to give you a break in the storm. He's going to part the clouds to let you have a moment to be still and know that I am God. You see, the devil wants you to be whirling around. When the children of Israel left Egypt to go to the Promised Land, it's an 11-day walk, straight walk right there. And the marker was, if you see milk and honey, watch for milk and honey. When you see milk and honey, you're there.
Israel's Wilderness and the Cost of Wrong Thinking
Philip:And he sends in the spies, and they come back with the grapes of Eshcol, and they say, "Surely the land flows with milk and honey." Milk means there's cattle. Honey means there's bees. Bees means there's pollination. Pollination means there's plenty to eat. And at the same time they're telling the reports, they said, "However, there's giants." Their thought life cost them 40 years in the wilderness, and you don't have time to spend another 40 years going around in circles in an 11-day march area. So I just speak to you peace.
Philip:Our number, 833-DAILYFAITH. You can call that number right now. Someone will pray with you. And God has got a plan for your life, and the storm is going to break, and the doubts and the fears are going to go in the name of Jesus, and He's going to say, "Peace. Be still in your storm." And all that junk, get it out. Throw it overboard. It's not in your life. Amen.
Philip:Derek, every time you come, you make me want to write a book. Every time you come, I'm thinking, I've got to write a book.
Derek Draughon:I just love being here. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you. And let me say this again, go to FuelCast TV. And that's a program that's on the go and on the grow, and you need to watch him speak from his point of view.
Philip:He's a crazy man. I love you, Derek. Thank you for being with me today.
Derek Draughon:Love you too. Thank you.
Philip:Thank you for watching "Daily Faith." Help us with Promised Land. God will bless you for doing so. We'll see you again. Bye-bye.
For over 25 years, the Cameron family has been changing the lives of orphans in Romania and Moldova. From providing running water, flushing toilets, and clean wells, to coal for heat, new windows, as well as food and clothing. They champion the physical needs of the orphans in these broken and desolate countries. Many of Moldova's orphans are saved from the horrors of trafficking through homes founded by the Camerons, and in the process, orphans become daughters and sons.
They come to know their heavenly Father and are forever changed by the love of Jesus. God helped the Camerons lift these amazing young men and women out of darkness. Now, no longer orphans, they want to return and invade that very same darkness with the light of Jesus Christ. The Orphan's Hands equips these daughters and sons to become missionaries. Your monthly gift of $31 will allow us to rescue and take in more girls and boys, saving them from the hell of human trafficking. Your monthly partnership will allow us to care for those in The Orphan's Hands homes in Moldova and the Ukraine.
If you want to join Philip and Chrissy in taking care of these precious young people, please contact us today by calling 833-DAILYFAITH. You can also give by going online to www.dailyfaith.tv or by writing to Post Office Box 25, Clinton, Tennessee 37716. So many lives depend on what we do. Thank you for loving the lost.
Common questions
What does Derek Draughon mean by 'arresting every thought'?
Derek uses the analogy of a police officer detaining someone during a traffic stop — you don't have to let a thought run free just because it showed up. He says to put it in 'handcuffs' and ask: Is this from God? Does it align with the Word and God's plan for my life? Only after testing it should you let it pass through — or reject it entirely.
What are Derek's three steps to a healthier thought life?
Derek outlines two steps clearly in the conversation: first, arrest every thought (2 Corinthians 10:5) by detaining it and testing whether it's from God; and second, renew your thought life (Romans 12:2) by conforming your mind to the Word rather than the patterns of the world. He frames these as a sequential process — you can't renew what you haven't first stopped and examined.
Why does Derek say your thought life is the most 'toxic' thing in your life?
Derek points to Proverbs 23:7 — 'As a man thinks in his heart, so is he' — and argues that while people talk about toxic media or toxic masculinity, the real danger is what we allow to run unchecked through our own minds. He uses the old computer-programming phrase 'garbage in, garbage out' to make the point: if you're constantly consuming negative news and dark content, your thoughts — and eventually your actions — will reflect that toxicity.
What is a 'faith circle' and why does Derek say every man needs one?
Derek describes a faith circle as a small group of people you meet with regularly — like his coffee group — who leave you feeling energized and capable rather than deflated. He contrasts it with relationships that drain you, and says the difference is stark: the right circle makes you feel like you can 'walk on water,' while the wrong one leaves you feeling like you won't make it in life.
How does Derek connect the idea of renewing your mind to his cat chasing squirrels?
Derek tells the story of his gray cat Grissy, who mimics squirrels in the yard — shaking her tail, blending in — as a lighthearted illustration of Romans 12:2. His point is that if we immerse ourselves in the Word and start looking, talking, and walking like it, our minds naturally begin to conform to it, leaving no room for negative thoughts to 'build a nest.'
