You can always come home to the father!

It is one of the great stories of the Bible. In fact, it's one of the great stories, period. It's a story Jesus told. A young boy left his dad and his brother, went to the far country, and wasted his inheritance on righteous living. You know the story. One day he decided to go home, and he dragged his body back across the miles, and he'd gone this direction full of pride and vanity. This way he was a broken boy. He didn't expect his dad to be waiting for him. He didn't realize his dad had seen him a far way off and was running towards him, which was unseemly for an elder man in Jewish culture. You don't run if you're an old man, but when it's your boy that's coming home, boy, do you run. The first thing his dad did is he kissed him. Then he brought him to the house, and he put on a robe, a ring, and shoes. The robe covered his dirtiness. The ring made him and recognized him as a son, and the shoes gave him direction for the rest of his life. I have good news for you. If you're out in the pig pen today, and you're broken, and you've wasted your inheritance, what God's put in you, and you think there's no way I'll ever make it back, I have good news for you today. Your dad is waiting for you. He's watching for you to get out of the pig pen. You're not destined for the pig pen. You're a son. You're a daughter. You've got greatness inside you. So right now, in the name of Jesus, rise up. Leave the pigs. Go home. And you'll discover a merciful greeting, and welcome home.
